What is a parliamentarian?

In short, a parliamentarian can advise your organization how to make group deliberative decisions in a fair and efficient manner. Parliamentarians are knowledgeable in parliamentary procedure and can quickly answer those pesky "What's the right procedure?" questions about which everyone seems to have their own opinion.

In the United States, the manual most widely used as a parliamentary authority is Robert's Rules of Order Newly Revised (RONR). It is based on concepts used in legislative bodies and other fundamentally democratic entities, evolved through centuries of experience, until it has become the well-established custom for use by ordinary, non-legislative organizations.

A Professional Registered Parliamentarian is someone who has successfully completed three levels of testing to be certified by the National Association of Parliamentarians as an expert on Robert's Rules of Order Newly Revised.
